The fight for fair wages is gaining momentum across the United States. The state of Massachusetts has long been a pioneering state in the movement. In 1912, it enacted the nation’s first minimum wage law. Soon after that first law, many other states followed suit.

Inflation has become the second most important issue for voters, and President Joe Biden often gets the blame for it. Connecticut is leading the way by passing laws tying future pay raises to inflation rates. Will it be enough to make sure workers’ wages keep up with the rising cost of living?

Methodology/Disclosure: Washington, D.C., currently has the highest minimum wage in the country at $17 per hour, but since it isn’t a state, it didn’t make our list today. This list is based on data published by Statista Research Department on February 16, 2024.
